The Process Behind Good Illustration (Guest Post for Design Informer)

So, over the last few months I’ve been hard at work writing some articles on bequest of Design Informer‘s owner Jad Limcaco. This was the first time I’ve had such a major blogging endeavor, as my own scribbles here are usually pretty minor, broody, and esoteric.
(On the side, of course, internship and various commissions have been going on, as well as The Victorious, which never leaves!)
What came out after a few weeks of writing and 3 weeks of publishing is a 3-post series on some of my thoughts about illustration, as a still-aspiring student in the field. The original idea was just to share some personal tips and techniques on how I do my stuff, but I realized I needed to write an intro about some at least a small amount of art theory on topic of where illustration sits within the larger-realm of image-making, so as explain my brain a little and introduce where the subsequent techniques-tips are coming from.
If you haven’t already stumbled upon the articles, and feel like checking them out, you can find them at the links below. Thanks to those that already read/commented/retweeted/sent nice emails!
Part I — Illustration Is Not the Same Thing As Art
Part II — Good Process and Good Design
Part III — Good Process and Good Design (Continued)
And of course, thank you, Jad, for giving me the opportunity to get my thoughts together and express them on your blog! Having to write pages and pages of coherent babble on this topic taught me a thing or two about my own craft as well.
Now to catch up around here. I’m a bit behind on this blogging thing… ![]()
Unrelated: I had major issues with the WordPress 2.9 –> 3.0 upgrade, like a few other folks.
(My fault probably) Blank screen of death, as Google says. Apparently, re-uploading the wp-includes directory fresh fixed it? Interesting. Though, the internet says that deleting blank lines in wp-config.php can also be a possible solution to a common culprit. Anyway, best of luck, other WordPress-ers!
